Conflict Of Interest

Jurnal Muassis Pendidikan Dasaris dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, objectivity, transparency, and credibility in scholarly publishing. Proper disclosure and management of potential or actual conflicts of interest (COI) are essential to safeguarding fairness throughout the peer review and editorial processes and preserving public trust in published academic works.

This policy applies to all authors, peer reviewers, editors, and editorial staff involved in the publication process. It outlines their respective responsibilities in identifying, declaring, and managing competing interests that could influence, or be perceived to influence, the manuscript's evaluation, research findings, or editorial decision-making. Jurnal Muassis Pendidikan Dasar adheres strictly to the principles and guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A Conflict of Interest (also termed a competing interest) arises when personal, financial, professional, academic, or institutional relationships inappropriately influence, or appear to compromise, an individual’s professional judgment, objectivity, or impartiality in conducting, reviewing, or publishing scholarly work.

Competing interests may include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial Relationships: Research grants, institutional funding, sponsorships, employment, consultancy roles, honoraria, or intellectual property rights.

  • Personal & Professional Ties: Family connections, close personal friendships, professional rivalries, supervisory roles, or recent/ongoing academic collaborations among authors, reviewers, or editors.

  • Institutional Affiliations: Employment or advisory roles with organizations, community partners, or funding bodies that stand to benefit from the publication.

  • Academic & Intellectual Commitments: Strong personal beliefs, competing research projects, or ideological positions that may bias an objective assessment.

Note: The existence of a conflict of interest does not automatically imply wrongdoing. However, failure to disclose relevant competing interests compromises the integrity of the scholarly record.

2. General Principles

  1. Full and Timely Disclosure: All parties must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest at the earliest possible stage (during submission or peer review).

  2. Impartial Evaluation: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on their academic quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to hospitality education and industry practice, irrespective of institutional or personal affiliations.

  3. Recusal when Conflicted: Individuals with significant conflicts of interest must recuse themselves from reviewing or making editorial decisions on the manuscript concerned.

  4. Public Transparency: Disclosed conflicts of interest and funding sources will be explicitly stated in the published article.

  5. Post-Publication Accountability: Undisclosed conflicts identified after publication will be investigated and addressed through appropriate editorial actions (e.g., Corrections, Expressions of Concern, or Retractions) in line with COPE guidelines.

3. Roles and Responsibilities

For Authors

  • Declare All Relevant Interests: Authors must explicitly disclose any financial or non-financial relationships related to the manuscript.

  • State Funding Sources: Explicitly identify all funding sources, grants, or material support received for the research and describe the funder's role (if any) in study design, data collection, analysis, or report writing.

  • Include Statement in Manuscript: Provide a clear "Conflict of Interest" statement within the manuscript template prior to submission.

  • Standard Statement (if no COI exists):

"The authors declare that they have no competing interests or financial disclosures regarding the publication of this article."

For Peer Reviewers

  • Declare Competing Interests: Inform the Editor immediately if any financial, personal, or collaborative connection exists with the authors or their institutions.

  • Decline Assignments: Recuse themselves from reviewing any manuscript where a conflict prevents an objective and unbiased assessment.

  • Maintain Confidentiality: Keep all manuscript details confidential and refrain from using unpublished research data for personal advantage.

For Editors and Editorial Board

  • Editorial Independence: Refrain from handling manuscripts where they have a personal, academic, or financial conflict of interest (including self-authored submissions).

  • Independent Delegation: Assign manuscripts involving an editor or editorial board member to an independent, non-conflicted editor to oversee the peer-review process.

  • Maintain Confidentiality: Ensure the integrity, privacy, and fairness of the double-blind review process.

4. Journal & Publisher Independence

Jurnal Muassis Pendidikan Dasar maintains absolute editorial independence. Editorial decisions are driven strictly by scientific merit and ethical standards. They remain completely free from commercial, financial, or institutional influences.

5. Handling Post-Publication Undisclosed Conflicts

If an undisclosed conflict of interest is reported after publication, Jurnal Muassis Pendidikan Dasar will investigate the issue confidentially following COPE flowcharts. Depending on the severity and impact on the study's conclusions, Jurnal Muassis Pendidikan Dasar may publish a formal Correction, issue an Expression of Concern, or proceed with a Retraction if necessary.
